STC #76: THE BIG DECISION

Ed's note: I think Chaotix only really appear here as an advert for the Knuckles special, but there you go. It's also one of the most dramatic Sonic complete stories.

It starts off with Sonic shouting at Porker in their caravan base. Porker has decided to quit the gang. Tearfully, he gives back his jacket. Sonic is furious, shouting that this isn't some kind of game. Amy, Tails and Johnny rally to Porker side - Amy points out that nobody has any idea what the Metallixes did with him, and that Sonic had no right to judge him. Tails thought Sonic was being too hard on Porker, and Johnny reassured Porker that they didn't think him a coward.

Sonic storms out, slamming the door behind him with a last shout of: "Fine! If anybody else gets a bit tired of fighting for the Freedom of Mobius, be sure to let me know."

Outside, Sonic is glad that he can still rely on Chaotix to -- but no, he can't. Chaotix have heard word that their former member Nack the Weasel has escaped his hospital prison in the Special Zone and was thought to have acquired a map of the Floating Island's Sandopolis Zone. He was last seen heading to the Floating Island, so Chaotix warp off in Omni.

Suddenly, Sonic is shot down. The Troopers around thought that they'd just find loiterers when they investigated the caravan, but realise that they just hit the jackpot. Amy and Johnny are soon incapacitated as they attempt a rescue, whilst Tails and Porker are inside the caravan looking to act quick. Porker grabs the light switch and removes the wires. Knowing that water conducts electricity, he placed the wire into the large puddle, causing the Troopers to short-circuit.

Later, Tails prepares to fly Porker to the Floating Island, where he plans to live in safety with the Emerald Hill folk, who are hiding in the Mushroom Hill Zone. Sonic thinks he'll enjoy it there, and is about to apologise about accusing him of being soft, but Porker tells him to forget it - he IS soft. Sonic assures Porker that they wouldn't have him any other way.
