Summary

Sonic is really mad, although when he confronts Robotnik with the story, the dictator is dubious. Porker also doesn't understand it - if the Metallixes were built by Robotnik, surely they destroy themselves? Grimer, Robotnik's assistant, speaks up at this point - it was HIM that designed the Metallixes. "Helped by my genius, you snivelling clod," Robotnik interjects. "Oh yes," says Grimer, "Robotnik designed the self-destruct programme."

As Charmy comments about a storm out of the window, Sonic's fury mounts - he realises that when Robotnik had sent Sonic and his gang to the Miracle Planet the first time (when Porker got captured, see issues 59-62, "The Brotherhood of Metallix), he could actually have remotely let them self-destruct. Robotnik thought it was a glorious scheme which would have the Metallixes destroy the outlaws so that he could then destroy the Metallixes by remote control. Sonic insists that now is the time to run that programme, whilst Charmy is told to shut up about the storm. But the storm isn't made of clouds - it's a gigantic swarm of Metallix robots, the Emperor in the lead.

They smash into Citadel Robotnik and an enormous battle follows. Robotnik runs to his desk and starts chucking out papers, desperate to find the self-destruction device. Porker meanwhile hides desperately, muttering that he can't take much more of this. Sonic and Chaotix go into battle but soon watch the Emperor Metallix grab Robotnik by the back of the neck as he finally finds the self-destruct program. Remarking at how incredible it was that such a tiny device could destroy the entire Brotherhood, the Emperor proceeds to crush it - but Sonic, being dead fast and all that, grabs it from him before he has time to completely destroy it and operates the device.

The Metallixes instantly collapse, having been totally deactivated. Sonic thinks it's an anti-climax, but Vector tells him not to knock it; they're barely alive! Sonic gives one final warning to Robotnik that this time his crazy plan nearly destroyed the planet, before leaving.

Robotnik agrees - the Brotherhood did nearly destroy them all. But Grimer is more positive, and explains that the idea is still a good one, but it just needs a new model. He rolls out a blueprint of his new design - a Metallix badnik designed around Knuckles.
