Summary
Knuckles is all about to go after him, when one of the Emerald Hill folk stops him, reminding him that they're all tired and want to go home. After all, Zachary isn't an immediate threat.
At this point the Guardian Robots come online. Not wishing to be captured again, the Emerald Hill folk attack in full force. As the robots are about to shoot back, Knuckles leaps in the way. You see, the Pulse didn't really affect the robots which are made of ancient technology, but it did knock out the modern systems Doctor Zachary used to control them. This time they were acting in self-defence.
So the people go to get their stuff, and Knuckles goes to the Emerald Chamber to lower the Floating Island and let the people go home. Knuckles also checks that his chest of documents about the island is safe. The ending of it goes something like this...
KNUCKLES> You might have cleared up while I was away, Porker!
PORKER> Are you kidding? I wouldn't dare touch anything in here!
KNUCKLES> This is the beginning of a whole new age... an age without
Robotnik! I think I'm going to enjoy it...
