Summary
Knuckles is in the most cheery mood that we've possibly ever seen him, saying that "it's a great day, old buddy!" because he gets to have his island back to himself, whilst Sonic gets to be the hero that defeated Robotnik. Porker explains that he wants to stay on the Floating Island for a while to help Knuckles figure out all the ancient systems now that he has the chest of documents (see "LOOSE ENDS", STC 101). As the island takes off, watched by the awestruck people Knuckles makes a crack that Sonic can retire now - Sonic slams down the computer screen, cutting Knuckles off, but afterwards starts to think - as he puts it, he can't exactly see himself going into accountancy!
Meanwhile, on Flickies' Island Robotnik is pouring over a Flicky connected to a badnik. Grimer confirms that the test results are positive, and that the Flickies would make perfect organic batteries for the new breed of badnik. Robotnik asks for the other Flicky; Grimer admits that they lost it. Robotnik storms off; after all, he thinks, what harm can one escaped Flicky do?
In the Emerald Hill Zone, Sonic is running around bored out his brain when Tails appears with a Flicky. Tails is able to communicate with the Flicky; it passes on information through a sort of telepathy. And the Flicky has warned of huge danger.
Sonic is incredibly sceptical, but with nothing else to do agrees to go with Tails to check out Flickies' Island: just as long as Tails doesn't tell anyone that they're going all the way to Flickies' Island because of something a little bird told him!
