Super explains that Ebony was right - he was able to absorb the Chaos energy. Super reflects that everybody else (especially Sonic) thought that this energy would turn Super into an evil world-destroying demon again, whilst only Ebony believed in him. "But you know what?" asks Super as he turns to the gang energy crackling around him.
"You should have listened to Sonic!": he proceeds to blast the guys aside. Super grabs the Prosecutor fish and chucks it clean out of the window. It soars past where Big the Cat is fishing, sitting on a hamper, and splashes into the water where it is accosted by a bunch of nasty crocs. Super meanwhile contemplates what to do next; perhaps a game of "hide and shriek?"
Tails attacks Super Sonic with surprising vigour. Super thinks this is cute, before turning and using his eye lasers to blast Tails aside. Sonic panics and chases after Tails, who is lying dazed but fine. Tails explains that he's actually a lot tougher than some people think. Sonic however, is now incredibly overprotective of his friends since Chaos killed Johnny.
Meanwhile, Grimer is amazed that Robotnik has no plan - he lured Chaos to the mountaintop base, and he gave him the Chaos Emeralds. Robotnik, pleased as punch, explains that "I just wanted to be here at the end, my dear Grimer. I want to see for myself how Mobius dies." Grimer turns to him in a rush of fury telling him that he's lost it and is completely insane; and adds on a vigorous "I QUIT!"
Sonic leaps back to attack Super, who has his hand around Knuckles' neck and looks like he is sucking some kind of energy from his head. Super chucks Knuckles aside, knowing that it's Sonic he really wants.
The guys face off, but Ebony meanwhile casts some kind of spell. As the two hedgehogs battle, Sonic suddenly starts to age. In a flash, he explodes leaving Super standing there. As Super relishes in the delight that Ebony has killed the wrong hedgehog, Amy screams that Ebony's "stupid spell didn't work" and that she's killed Sonic.
But Super suddenly feels strange. His spikes shrink slightly and eyes turn green. Slowly his skin fades from yellow to blue. Ebony explains that she didn't kill Sonic, but simply combined them - to the way it was in the beginning.
As the skies clear, Knuckles scrabbles to gather the Emeralds to himself. In the old days, Sonic used to turn Super in times of great stress; Tails asks Sonic what will happen next time Sonic gets stressed out.
Sonic replies, as the guys look up at a large cloud where Johnny's spirit can just be seen: "Maybe NOTHING, Tails old buddy! But if it does, we'll deal with it... We always do!"

This story is unfortunately the last original story of Sonic the Comic.
