Knuckles and his echidna warriors swing to attack the Drakon Invader, but are all knocked for six. Sonic however, has met a Prosecutor before and knows how to deal with it. He grabs the helmet and pulls it off, before revealing to the echidnas that the Prosecutor is really just a fish in the head, and the rest is all armour.
Back in the present, Robotnik has constructed his Chaos Resonator in his retreat, a menacing castle constructed in the wastelands north of Metropolis City. Apparently it was from Robotnik's days in power when he wanted to get away from it all (particularly from Grimer). Now, the Chaos Resonator is attracting all the emeralds to the tower. He's already got four (including the Master Emerald), although it seems that Chaos has probably got the others.
Sonic, Knuckles, Tikal and the Echidnas return to Megaopolis City, where the Prosecutor is left in a pond in one of the gardens, scowling and scaring off the other fish and shouting out abuse from his position of helplessness.
Knuckles questions Sonic - he's confused as to how he could still be alive so far in the future. Sonic doesn't know - Knuckles in the present has no memory of his past life. He guesses it must be due to some kind of suspended animation or something.
Then, Tikal arrives saying that Pochacamac - the spiritual leader of the Echidnas and her dad - wants to see him.
Sonic wants to know why he was brought here, but Pochacamac draws back a curtain to show him something first - something that they recently stole from the Drakon Empire: the Chaos Emeralds!
