Knuckles and the Echidna armies see the explosion as a chance to attack the Drakons whilst they are divided. Chaos on the other hand discovers his power to invoke fear in his enemies as Knuckles can't approach him. The fish inside his head has already merged to form a perfect water creature.
Sonic leaps at Perfect Chaos, furious that in the future he kills one of his best friends (Johnny Lightfoot). He hopes that by killing Chaos in the past, he can change all that - but Sonic bounces into Chaos and becomes trapped. With only seconds to go before Perfect Chaos will kill Sonic, Pochacamac does the only thing he can do to save Sonic's life - he sends Sonic back to the future!
Perfect Chaos crouches down, feeling suddenly weak. Pochacamac explains that he used the Chaos Emerald power to send Sonic back and it's weakened him - he shouts to Knuckles that this could be their chance!
The present. In Robotnik's stone fortress, he has collected six of the Chaos Emeralds. Grimer is petrified - Chaos is coming and he still doesn't know what Robotnik intends to do. Robotnik simply turns around to tell Grimer: "My dear Grimer, it was YOU, not I, who RELEASED CHAOS! It's up to YOU to come up with the plan!"
But at this point, Chaos crawls through the window ledge shouting that no plan can save them now.
Knuckles, Amy and Tails arrive in their quad-plane - as Knuckles sees Robotnik he realises that he should have known that he'd be at the bottom of this. Robotnik is amused: "Ah, the gang's all here... Knuckles, you were an IDIOT when I first met you and you're STILL an idiot NOW!"
As if things weren't strange enough, something begins to happen inside Chaos. From inside the creature, Sonic appears and is spat out. Chaos suddenly feels a link to the past and remembers - Pochacamac hoped to save Sonic by sending him back to the future but he didn't save him: he just delayed his fate by eight thousand years!
8,000 years ago, the battle of Megapolis City is won! The Drakon Invaders are driven out and Knuckles is victorious. No clue is given as to what became of Chaos. Tikal is concerned that it was dangerous sending Sonic back to his own time like that, but Pochacamac knows it was the only way to save him. Knuckles is in awe that he still exists so far in the future, but Pochacamac brings him back to reality by reminding him that they are now at war - a war that will determine the fate of the entire echidna race!
