Summary
Sonic asks if that was detailed in the scrolls Plunder had found; Plunder mentions that there was something about a giant stone guardian, but he paid it no heed. As the giant stone guardian steps out, Sonic wonders "are all pirates as STUPID as you?"
Sonic bashes the stone guardian, but as he gloats to Knuckles, it reforms behind him and pounds him into the sand. Knuckles shows a quick display of brain over brawn and waves to the Guardian to come and get him, causing it to walk over some quicksand and disappear.
Sonic is confused, and asks why it didn't recognise Knuckles as guardian, but Knuckles explains that he was from an ancient time and probably didn't even realise that the Echidnas were no longer on the island. Meanwhile, Plunder has set about looting the pyramid. Sonic and Knuckles arrive, and Plunder makes a dash for it. Sonic thinks they're mad, trying to outrun Sonic the Hedgehog, but Knuckles tells him to wait. The duo watch as the ghosts chase Plunder, Filch and the Professor away, all of them losing their sacks. Outside, the pirates are embarassed, knowing that they can't very well tell the crew that they were chased away by three ghosts. So, they decide to make it ten (or twenty) evil spirits... or is that fifty?
In the pyramid, Knuckles breaks the seal and the sand pours in; he assures Sonic that the hierogliphics say that there's a way out (and also teases him that you can't always trust those ancient scripts). The two disappear down a corridor.
Meanwhile, on Plunder's ship, he explains how two-hundred evil spirits each with three heads and glowing eyes attacked from all sides...
